My dear revered and esteemed Fellows,

I deem it a privilege and honour to be elected as the President of this august body with an astounding majority. I am very grateful and obliged for the confidence and the faith reposed in me and my team. I assure all of you that we shall strive hard to bring the academy at par with the top academies of the country.

The new Governing Council has come into functioning from 2nd December 2020. I have pleasure in advising you that we have recruited an Honorary Captain M.M. Ansari, as Admin Assistant, who will be available in our office in NAAS Complex from 11 am to 4 pm from Monday to Friday subject to exigencies. During the recently held election, I have observed that there is lot of communication gap between the Governing Council and the Fellows.

Dr. D.V.R PRAKASH RAO

I strongly felt that this has to be corrected. The Newsletter so far has been published online and was not very communicative. Hence a decision has been taken to print our Newsletter which will serve as a mouth-piece of the academy. The Newsletter shall be renamed as NAVS News Vibes in future. This will be posted to all the Fellows and dignitaries of the profession directly, which will serve as a communication channel on quarterly basis. The activities of the academy relating to the academic programmes, brain storming sessions, seminars and webinars shall be communicated to you in the NAVS News Vibes on quarterly basis.

Another thrust area shall be strengthening the academy financially by getting more corporate members and approaching the Ministry/ICAR for financial assistance. The previous Governing Council headed by Maj Gen Shri Kant has already made representation to the Ministry for the financial assistance. The academy has to be strengthened and broad based by involving the Veterinarians of excellence from different Ministries such as Ministry of Science and Technology, Health and various other organizations.

The Veterinary Universities represent the cream of our fraternity at the state level championing the cause of veterinary education, research and development. These Veterinary Universities headed by Vice Chancellors shall be very closely involved in the working and functioning of the academy. I have requested the Vice Chancellors to include NAVS fellowship in the score card for recruitment of teaching and research staff in the Universities which will strengthen the creditability of the Fellowship. This will improve the quality of recruitment since NAVS fellowship is awarded on a stringent score card that is designed by the Universities and the ICAR system. I appeal to the Vice Chancellors of the Veterinary Universities to become institutional life member of the academy. I request all the Directors of ICAR institutions, who are involved in veterinary research to become institutional life member since we do not have any funding from ICAR.

I had a desire to recognize the life time achievements of our Veterinarians, who have excelled in the profession during their life time. Hence I have announced a Life Time Achievement award on my name from the academy every year with a corpus of Rs. 12 lakhs effective from 2021. The modalities of the award shall be finalized very shortly.

Finally I would like to request all our Fellows to take active part in the activities of the academy and offer their valuable suggestions by E-Mail with a copy at my personal mail ID. Please be rest assured that the suggestions will receive my active attention. Lastly I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year 2021.

Thanking you all. Cordially yours!!

Dr. D.V.R PRAKASH RAO
